Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium program was created in 2011. As part of this program, the federal government subsidizes private donation funds raised by colleges to finance scholarships for talented and academically strong students. The program was modeled after other programs, including Studienfonds OWL, which has been granting privately funded scholarships on behalf of five colleges in Ostwestfalen-Lippe, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The goal of the Deutschlandstipendium is to grant particularly talented, conscientious students apart from their social, personal or family circumstances, nationwide-lasting support.

It´s a match

In doing so, the federal government seeks to popularize the tradition of scholarships by supporting colleges to raise money for scholarships from private sponsors. You can find additional information in the Stipendienprogramm-Gesetz (Scholarship Program Law of the German Federal Government) and in the Sponsorship Guidelines.

Each Deutschlandstipendium is half financed by the federal government and half from private funds raised by Studienfonds. Consequently, each recipient receives a scholarship amounting to €300 per month (€3,600 per year).

Financial support - and even more

Besides the financial support, Studienfonds OWL offers its scholarship students an extensive Ideals Cultivation Program. We offer:

  • contact to businesses in OWL
  • workshops, seminars, talks
  • tours of companies
  • internship positions
  • help in matching a student with projects and theses
  • evenings by the fire with interesting personalities
  • mentoring
  • academic exchange
  • cultural events
  • meetings among scholarship students
  • and much more!

The length of the scholarship is two academic years and can be extended to a third academic year. The scholarship always begins in the winter semester.

It is possible in some cases to receive another scholarship at the same time as the Deutschlandstipendium. It is not possible, however, when students receive financial support or a performance- or talent-based scholarship that is, like the Deutschlandstipendium, financed using public funds.
